I will pick up a caliper measuring tool to confirm.
How to fix light scoring in cylinder wall.
This would affect cylinder wall lubrication and could.
Thanks everyone for the information and if anyone else has any advice on doing the cylinder honing i am all ears.
I can barely feel it but it s enough to worry me.
If i can hone it out can the rings be adjusted to fill in the couple thousandths that are honed out.
The scoring on the cylinder wall is not that bad i would say but a finger nail could catch.
Abrasion is a type of light scoring that could be caused by dust and dirt entering the engine through a faulty or badly serviced air cleaner.
Ok so according to the bgb for the gen 3 the cylinder bore limit for the stock pistons is 86 23mm and i am at 86 013mm at the moment on that cylinder with the scratches so i will be fine.
I don t know if it is worth it to put the saw back together with the proper parts.
The saw was my father in law s and he gave it to me saying it was hard to start etc.
Well he was right but it did start after a while.
Deep scoring in a cylinder can be the result of a mechanical failure such as a broken piston ring a broken circlip or a loose piston pin.
Zero dollar fix for scored piston cylinder hi guys.
Or should i just do a light ball hone and install the piston anyway.
It is probably a couple 1000 s of an inch at the most.
My plan is to split the crankcase open to remove all debris change bearing and oil seal and put a new piston kit in it.
I thought i would show you a little experiment i did on an 036.
